Carver Announcements for 5.22.2022

 

Hello Carver Families!

 

This information is intended to keep parents updated on reminders, upcoming activities, and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for updated daily announcements. Please see below for announcements for this week:

1.        LAST DAY OF SCHOOL IS MAY 25th! Students are dismissed from classes at 4:30 pm at normal times.


2.        End of the quarter will be on May 25th. Please talk with your student about grades or missing assignments for 4th quarter. Parents can check assignments and grades on Home Access at https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess. If you have any questions about assignments or grades, please reach out to the teacher via email or call 523-6800 to leave a message for the teacher. ·       To check overall grades in home access:

·  Assignments will be updated weekly by each teacher on home access. Grades will be updated for progress reports every three weeks and when the quarter ends. To check overall assignments and grades in eschool home access, please follow these steps:

·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess

·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password

o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.

o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.

·       Click on Classes for assignments and click on Grades for overall scores in each class at mid-quarter and at the end of the quarter.  

·       To message (Canvas email) teachers in Canvas:

·  Canvas is the platform our teachers and students use for learning. As a parent, you are automatically able to be an observer in each of your child’s Canvas courses with your own log-in and password. To find your child’s Canvas courses, log in to Canvas at www.sps.org > Click on “Parents” > Click on “Resources” > Click on “Canvas.” The log in for Canvas is the same as eschool home access log-in and password. If you are unable to log-in to Canvas or home access, please call the main office. We will be happy to assist you!

·  If you are unfamiliar with Canvas and would like quick tips on how to change preferences or contact a teacher through Canvas, click here for information.  

·  For accuracy, please use eschool Home Access for updated weekly grades. If you have questions about the assignment or grade, Canvas offers a way to immediately contact the teacher through inbox.  

 

3.        Parents of seated 8th grade students: We will have an award assembly for seated 8th grade students on May 25th at 11:15 am in the gym. Parents are invited to attend! Parents will be allowed to enter the building for the award assembly at 11:05 am. The assembly will end around 12:10 pm.

 

4.        Please be a part of our Carver PTSA! To join PTSA, print and complete this form (click here) and send the completed form and payment to the office or in the Carver PTSA drop box located outside the main office. Membership cost is $7 per individual or $10 per family.

 

5.        Carver PTSA is planning to host a celebration for 8th graders on May 25th from 6 pm – 7:30 pm. In order to have the celebration event, PTSA will need parent volunteers. Please use this link to volunteer to assist with celebration (click here to sign up). For additional questions about signing up, please contact CarverPTSA@outlook.com. Please click here for the permission slip for 8th graders to attend.

 

6.        Click here to view the latest episode from the GWC  Student News Tech Force team. The students in the Tech Force Team applied to be part of the Tech Force team to assist the librarian, students, and teachers with technology needs. Part of the duties in Tech Force is to also create a student news video to highlight activities and events at Carver. The GWC News is shared with students during Breakfast in the Classroom and is also available for student viewing on Cougar Voices Canvas page.

 

7.        Parkview will be hosting a Freshman Focus for incoming 9th graders on August 11 from 1:30 pm -5:00 pm in the Parkview Cafeteria (students only). Parents are welcome to the Freshman Focus starting at 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm on the Parkview Front Lawn.  A parent meeting will be from 6:30-7:30pm in the Parkview Auditorium.

 

8.        Kickapoo will be hosting a Freshman Frenzy for incoming 9th graders on August 11 from 10 am – 12 pm in the Kickapoo CafĂ© (students only). A parent meeting will be from 6 pm – 7:30 pm in Performing Arts Center.


9.        Want to help our PTSA in an easy way? PTSA is raising money by collecting digital Box Tops. Each Box Top scanned can bring money to our PTSA! To help, download the Box Top App and select Carver Middle School PTSA (enter 65807 in the zip code search to find Carver PTSA). 10.    School library books were due back to the library on May 13th. All overdue library books have been marked as not returned and a fee for the book has been added to your students account. Please be sure your student returns the overdue book to the librarian to remove the fee from your students account. If your student has lost or damaged the book, please pay the fee amount in the main office and ask your student to bring the receipt to the library. All students have been notified if they have books to return or bills for non-return of books.  Please call the library at 417-523-6840 if you have questions!


11.    Explore Summer School Registration is open! Summer school starts June 6 through July 15 from 7:30 am – 3 pm. Students in 6th and 7th grades can enroll in virtual summer school or attend seated summer school at Cherokee Middle School. Summer school for current 8th graders will be virtual only. Sign up for courses and busing before April 15th to be eligible for bus transportation on the first day of summer school for seated classes. 12.    Students in grades 6-8 will keep the chromebook over the summer and should bring it to school fully charged on first day of school in August. If your student is moving and will not return to an SPS school in August, please deliver the chromebook and charger to the office on the last day they will attend SPS school. Thank you for helping your student remember to bring a charged chromebook each school day!

 

13.     Does your student have medications in the nursing office at school? The Springfield Public Schools medication policy does not allow medication to be sent home with students. An adult must pick up any unused medication. All unclaimed medication will be discarded on May 25, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Please call 523-6830 to visit with one of the Carver nurses about unused medication and to schedule a convenient time to pick-up medications.

 

14.     Due to COVID restrictions, the water fountains at Carver are closed. Please send a water bottle to school with your student each day. Students can refill water bottles at one of the two bottle filler stations we have at Carver.
