Carver Announcements for Oct 29, 2018


Hello Carver Families!

This email is intended to keep parents updated on reminders and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for all additional announcements on clubs, activities, and student events!

1.        Please join us for our Veteran’s Day Assembly at 8:30 am on November 12 to honor our veterans! All families are welcome to attend.
·          If you have a family member in the military (past or present), please submit a picture for the assembly. You can reply with an emailed copy of the photo or send a photo to the office with the family member name, student name, and branch of the military. We will get the photo back to you after scanning it.
·          We have reserved seating at the assembly for veterans or those currently serving and their families. Please let us know in advance if you can attend the assembly. On November 12, we will escort you to your reserved seating.
·          The PTSA Book Fair (located in Carver library) begins November 12 – 16, but will be open immediately after the assembly for parents and guardians.

2.        Please consider donating to #Socktober to help Carver’s orchestra and seventh grade reading classes as they collect new socks and other items to support Springfield’s homeless shelters this winter. To learn more about the program, use this link or watch this Kid President video on youtube.

3.        Wear a costume to school on October 31?? Yes! You can! Pay $2 and wear your costume. All costumes must be school appropriate. Large hats, masks, or props will be left in the office after costume judging first period. All costumes must have shoes. The money raised will benefit attendance incentives at Carver!

4.        Flu clinic is coming to Carver on November 7. Click here for vaccine information. Click here for consent form. Please contact Nurse Nancy Sadler, at 523-6830, for more information.

5.        Please join us for Carver PTSA meeting in the Carver library on Thursday, Nov 8, from 4 pm – 5 pm. All parents/guardians are invited to attend. If you would like to participate in Superintendent’s Open Parent Forum, please let PTSA or the office know. If you need more information about Carver PTSA, please contact PTSA via email at CarverPTSA@outlook.com or on facebook at Carver PTSA. We hope to see you at the PTSA meeting!

6.        Families of children who currently attend Carver are invited to participate in the Free Grocery Distribution on November 13 from 9:30 am – 10:30 am. The family member who is picking up food must show ID when receiving food.  Please bring at least two boxes or laundry baskets with you day of distribution.  If you are walking, a wagon is great! Rain or shine, the distribution goes on unless school is cancelled.

7.        DODGE BALL TOURNAMENT IS BACK!!! Do you love Dodge Ball? If so, join us on November 16 at 5:30 pm for a Dodge Ball PTSA fundraiser tournament! Create your own 5-member team to play in the adult tournament or the student tournament or show up at the door to join a team! It’s $5 to play or $1 to laugh from the stands! Click here for the team form. Click here for permission form. Concessions will be available. Be sure to bring extra money to buy extra lives and to browse at the PTSA book fair during the event!

8.        PTSA Scholastic Book Fair is coming November 12 – 16! Make plans to attend the book fair this year and browse the selection of books! If you would like to volunteer and earn Scholastic book dollars, please contact Carver PTSA.

9.        Mark your calendar, picture retake day is November 27.  Pictures will be returned prior to picture retake day. If you know you need picture retakes and would like to order online in advance, please contact Wagner Pictures at www.WagnerPortraitGroup.com using the password CarverMS. Extra copies of the picture order form are also available in the office.

10.     1st quarter grade cards were available Oct 19 online! To access grade cards online, please follow these steps:

o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.
o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.

11.     Does your student love to travel and love history? If so, make plans to attend the informational parent meeting on 9/18/18 in the Carver café at 6 pm for more information on the WorldStrides trip to Washington, D.C. during Spring Break. Please email scotty617@gmail.com or sgreen@spsmail.org for more information or visit the website at worldstrides.com/signup and use Trip ID 160438.

12.     Reporting safety concerns will now be easier with a new, anonymous tip line launched by Springfield Public Schools. The dedicated tip line will enable students, teachers, parents, or community members to notify SPS School Police of potential safety threats with a quick text message to 417-319-2901, through the MySPS app, or on the district website at www.sps.org/tipline.

13.     Check out the new MySPS app from Springfield Public Schools to access menus, bus delay information, parent resources, online MealPay, directory link, notifications, eschool plus access, canvas access, SPS news, and the school calendar.

14.     No school on November 5 and 6.  SPARC has a program designed for middle school students if you need care for your student. Contact Erin Boschen at 353-2161 or eboschen@springfieldmo.gov or click here for the flyer.

15.     Please make sure you have your child picked up by 3 pm each day. If you need after school care for your student or just want to avoid the afternoon carline, sign up for Y-teens after school care at 862-7456 or at the Ward or Jones YMCA buildings. Y-teens is available from 2:45 pm – 6:30 pm each school day at Carver.

16.     Student spectators attending home or away games without a guardian present during games must be picked up or have pick-up rides in the stands by 8:00 pm for each home and away event. Students attending the game as a spectator should make clear arrangements to have a ride at the designated pick-up time PRIOR to attending the game. Students picked up later than the expected pick-up time or with no pick-up ride in the stands by 8 pm could forfeit the privilege of attending future athletic activities as a spectator. If the game is not over at the 8 pm pick-up time, the driver/pick-up ride can enter the game for FREE for the remainder of the game to sit with the student in the stands.

 Thursday: Sock it on drugs - Wear Crazy Socks.
 Friday: Shade out drugs - Wear your shades.
