Carver Announcements for 9.27.2020

 

Hello Carver Families!

 

This information is intended to keep parents updated on reminders, upcoming activities, and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for updated daily announcements. Please see below for announcements for this week:

 

1.        Mid-Quarter was September 25th! Please be sure to check assignments, grades, and attendance online in eschool or Canvas each day for your student and talk with your student about each grade.

·       To check overall grades in Canvas:

·  If  you are unfamiliar with Canvas, click here for information on Canvas.  To view grades and assignments in Canvas, click on Grades on the left side of the Canvas page. The student’s overall grade will be shown on the top right and at the bottom. For accuracy, please only note the row labeled ‘Total Grade.’ If you have questions, Canvas offers a way to immediately contact the teacher through inbox.

·       To check overall grades and completed assignments in eschool, please follow these steps:

·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess

·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password

o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.

o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.

·       Click on Grades for grade card at the end of the quarter. Click on Classes for assignments and overall scores in each class at mid-quarter and throughout the quarter.  

 

2.        SCHOOL PICTURE DAY!!!! CLICK HERE to order school pictures online at lifetouch.com and use the Picture ID Code: EVTSMK7QN. Paper forms will be sent home next week. Lifetouch Photography will be at Carver on these dates:

·       Friday, October 16, for seated students in Cohort L-Z. (For our fully virtual students with last names L-Z, picture times are from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm on Oct 16. When you arrive, please park in the bus lane and use the WEST door #4 on the far west side of the parking lot. Someone will greet your student at door #4. Parents will need to wait in the car. Students coming into the building must wear a mask.)

·  Retakes for Cohort L-Z are Friday, December 4, at 8:45 am. 

·       Tuesday, October 20, for seated students in Cohort A-K. (For our fully virtual students with last names A-K, picture times are from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm on Oct 20. When you arrive, please park in the bus lane and use the WEST door #4 on the far west side of the parking lot. Someone will greet your student at door #4. Parents will need to wait in the car. Students coming into the building must wear a mask.)

·  Retakes for Cohort A-K are Tuesday, December 1, at 8:45 am.

 

3.        Does your child LOVE Fortnite? SPARC is offering a virtual Fortnite experience from your home during the month of October. Registration ends September 29th. Click here for more information.

 

4.        Springfield Public Schools, in cooperation with Jordan Valley Community Health Center and with support from CoxHealth, Mercy, and the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, is offering the seasonal flu vaccine to any student free of charge, and will be available to both virtual and seated students. Flu vaccine clinics will be held at Carver on Tuesday, November 11, and Friday, November 13, beginning at 8:15 am. Click here for information on the flu vaccine, on clinic information, and for consent forms. Students must have a signed consent form to participate in the clinic.

 

5.        Beginning September 8, all students enrolled at Carver will be able to eat a school breakfast each morning for free and lunch each afternoon for free! Breakfast will be available each morning from 7:30 am - 7:55 am for each seated student in their 1st hour classroom. Breakfast will not be available after 7:55 am. Students attending school virtually can pick up food items during designated times in the carline. Click here for more information or check out nutrition services at SPS.org.


6.        Sporting events have started for Carver Middle School! While we welcome our families and fans support for our Carver student athletes, there are new COVID-19 expectations and guidelines for all spectators attending Carver sporting events. Due to COVID-19 and to provide space for social distancing, student sections have been closed until further notice. Students attending as fans must be seated with their parent or guardian during the game and wear a mask throughout the games. Please click here and review other COVID-19 spectator guidelines for attending Carver games.


7.        The building will open at 7:30 am. This is a change from last year because of COVID. Please have your student remain in the car with you until the building opens at 7:30 am. Do not drop your student off in the parking lot.


8.        Have a library book still at home from any SPS library from 3rd or 4th quarters last year? Please return the book in the Carver morning or afternoon car lines or to the secure front entrance area and we will get it returned to our library or the correct SPS library!


9.        For our students working virtually and seated: Please have them log into the chromebook to first hour on virtual days at 7:55 am and check the announcements for assignments from the teacher. Cohorts A-K and Cohorts L-Z students should follow this bell schedule when seated and on the three virtual days:

 

1st period: 7:55 am – 8:42 am  

2nd period: 8:45 am – 9:32 am

3rd period: 9:35 am – 10:22 am

RTI Intervention: 10:25 am - 11:00 am

4th period: 11:03 am – 12:25 pm (30-min lunch included)

5th period: 12:28 pm – 1:15 pm      

6th period: 1:18 pm – 2:05 pm

7th period: 2:08 pm – 2:55 pm

 

10.     Parents! Need help accessing and checking online learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide created by our librarian for “how-to” items for parents.  Please be sure to reach out with questions as we navigate online learning. Ask your student to canvas inbox (email) his or her teachers and read the answers from the teacher together or email the teachers directly (teacher email list here)! Teachers are available via email or the librarian is willing to help via email, phone, or Instagram. At Carver, we want you to know we are in this together and we want to help you and your child during this virtual learning experience at home.

 

11.     Walking home from school using Battlefield Rd? For the safety of our students as they cross the crosswalks in the carline and on Battlefield, all students walking home from school toward Battlefield Rd will be dismissed from school after the car line has ended. For the first few days of school the carline may last until around 3:15 pm. Students walking home using the trail can leave at 2:55 pm.


12.     Picking up your student in the afternoon carline? We will be dismissing students differently this year for the carline. This year, we will dismiss students at 2:55 pm by student name only. Students will remain in the classroom until they are called to the carline by the adults supervising. To speed up the carline time, please have your student’s first and last name displayed on paper on your dash. Please use LARGE letters.

 

13.     We want virtual learning to be successful! Please reach out to your child’s teachers for questions on learning or assignments. You can find a list of email addresses at this link (click here) or at sps.org. In sps.org, please select ‘Carver’ from the list of schools at the top of the page, then select ‘About’ on the Carver page. You can find the list of teacher emails listed under staff directory.

 

14.     SPS will make meals available for students to take home for use on days when they are learning from home or for students fully virtual. These meals must be pre-ordered. Cost of the meals are free. Click here for more information.

Students should submit all assignments as outlined by the teacher in each Canvas course from home during those days online. For students not logging into each Canvas course or not submitting assigned coursework during those days,


6.        For our students working virtually Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday: Please have them log into the chromebook to first hour at 7:55 am and check the welcome announcements for next steps from the teacher. Cohorts A-K and Cohorts L-Z students should follow this bell schedule when seated and on the three virtual days:
