Carver Announcements for 5.23.2021

 Hello Carver Families!

This information is intended to keep parents updated on reminders, upcoming activities, and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for updated daily announcements. Please see below for announcements for this week:

1.       The last day of school is this Thursday, May 27. School will be dismissed 12:55 pm on the last day of school. All students in grades 6-8 returning to SPS for the August 2021 will keep the chromebook over the summer. 

2.          To help our 8th graders celebrate as they enter high school, we will hold an 8th grade car parade at 11 am in the Carver carline. Parents will need to remain in cars. Please display the gold name tag distributed last week to students. If you still need a tag, please call 523-6800 on May 24th and we will send an additional name tag home with your student. Parents of 6th and 7th graders, please be aware the of the 8th grade car parade and wait to line up for dismissal until 12:30 pm to avoid blocking the line for the 8th grade car parade.

3.          Yearbooks will be distributed the last week of school. For students that did not purchase a yearbook in advance, limited number of yearbooks will be available to purchase on May 24th & 25th during lunch for $18.00. Please make sure to send exactly $18.00 as change will not be provided.

4.       Please spend a few minutes with your student to review grades and assignments for 4th quarter in each class. Follow these steps to check grades and assignments:

·       To check individual assignments and message teachers in Canvas:

·  Canvas is the platform our teachers and students use for all assignments. As a parent, you are automatically able to be an observer in each of your child’s Canvas courses with your own log-in and password. To find your child’s Canvas courses, log in to Canvas at www.sps.org > Click on “Parents” > Click on “Resources” > Click on “Canvas.” The log in for Canvas is the same as eschool home access log-in and password. If you are unable to log-in to Canvas or home access, please call the main office. We will be happy to assist you!

·  If you are unfamiliar with Canvas and would like quick tips on how to change preferences or contact a teacher through Canvas, click here for information.  

·  To view grades and assignments in Canvas, click on Grades on the left side of the Canvas page. The student’s overall grade will be shown on the top right and at the bottom. For accuracy, please only note the row labeled ‘Total Grade.’ If you have questions about the assignment or grade, Canvas offers a way to immediately contact the teacher through inbox.

·       To check overall grades in home access:

·  Grades for mid-quarter and final end-of-quarter grades can be easily located in home access. To check overall grades in eschool home access, please follow these steps:

·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess

·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password

o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.

o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.

·       Click on Classes for assignments and click on Grades for overall scores in each class at mid-quarter and at the end of the quarter.  

5.        Explore Summer School registration is now open for all students. Carver will host a summer school site this summer. The dates for summer sessions are June 7th – 30th and July 7th – 30th. Transportation deadline is April 15 for the first session. Click here to enroll for summer classes.

6.        Click here to view the last episode from The 2020-21 GWC Student News Tech Force team. The students in the Tech Force Team applied to be part of the Tech Force team to assist the librarian, students, and teachers with technology needs.

7.        Medication in the Nursing office: All medications in the nursing office must be picked up by an adult. Nurse Sadler has asked all medications be picked up by 10 am on May 27. Please contact Nurse Sadler at Carver at 523-6830 for more information.

8.        All library materials are due back to the library. Please check with your student and make sure library books have been returned. If your student has an overdue library books or library bills for lost or damaged library books, please contact Mrs. McGuane in the library at 523-6800 or at cmcguane@spsmail.org. Students can check their library account by going to the Carver Library Canvas page and clicking on School Catalog. Once the ID number and password is entered, students should click on "my account" then "my borrowing" section to see book check out dates.  

9.        Need Summer Care for your student? Boys and Girls Club of Springfield offers programs for summer. Click here for the flyer.

10.     Student Chromebooks and Kajeets: Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will keep their Chromebooks for the summer. Students are expected to return with the same Chromebook in August. Failure to do so may result in a fine. If your student is not returning to SPS (seated or virtual) in the fall AND not taking an Explore class this summer should return the SPS chromebook device to Carver between the hours of 8:15 am – 2 pm on May 25 or May 26. On May 27, students not returning to SPS in the fall may return their chromebook from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm. All students not taking an Explore class will return their Kajeet hotspot to the school library by the last day of school. Please contact Mrs. McGuane at cmcguane@spsmail.org if you have a Kajeet hotspot and are taking Explore summer school classes to renew your hotspot by May 26th. The district will charge a $50 fee for Kajeet hotspots not returned or renewed on time. Beginning May 28, students not returning to SPS in the fall will return their SPS device to the Information Technology Department located in the General Services Center at 1458 E Chestnut Expressway.

11.     Please encourage your child to read over the summer! Students registered for Explore at Carver will be able to check out books. The Springfield Greene-County Library also has a wonderful selection of books that are available online or at the library. There are also a number of free book exchange library systems in Springfield or bargain books available at your local thrift store.

12.     Parents! Need help accessing and checking online learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide created by our librarian for “how-to” items for parents.  Please be sure to reach out with questions about eschool or canvas. Ask your student to canvas inbox (email) his or her teachers and read the answers from the teacher together or email the teachers directly (teacher email list here)! Teachers are available via email or the librarian is willing to help via email, phone, or Instagram.

5.        Carver will host a COVID vaccination clinic for students ages 12-15 on Monday, May 17, at 8:15 am in the Carver Café. If you would like your student to be vaccinated at the Carver Clinic and have not yet completed a consent form, please print this consent form (click here for the consent form) and sign and return it to school tomorrow morning. You may also email the form to Nurse Sadler at nasadler@spsmail.org or call her at (417) 523-6830 to give verbal consent prior to 8:10 am. Dose 1 will be administered at school. You will need to obtain Dose 2 through Jordan Valley Health Clinic at a later date. Information will be provided about how to schedule an appointment for Dose 2. If you have additional questions about the vaccine, vaccine clinics, or want to give verbal consent to the school nurse on May 17 (prior to 8:10 am), please call Nurse Sadler at Carver at (417) 523-6830 or SPS Health Services at (417) 523-1632.

The students in the Tech Force Team applied to be part of the Tech Force team to assist the librarian, students, and teachers with technology needs. For 4th quarter, the team will also create a news episode highlighting items around Carver. The GWC News will be available for student viewing on Cougar Voices Canvas page each Thursday.

Carver Announcements for 5.2.2021

 

Hello Carver Families!

1.        MAP continues this week with 8th grade Science testing:

·       May 4 (Tuesday): 9:00 am – 11:30 am (Science MAP 8th grade only)

PLEASE BE ON TIME TO SCHOOL FOR MAP TESTING!

2.        For our virtual Launch students, MAP is required by the state to be given in person. Launch has designed a schedule for Carver virtual students to take the MAP test on April 20th, April 27th, and May 4th. Click here for the schedule for virtual students to take the MAP test at Carver.

3.        Each student should bring a water bottle and wired headphones for each day of MAP testing!

4.        Be sure to tell our teachers HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION this week! 😊

14.     Have a school issued Kajeet hotspot? As a reminder, SPS Kajeets must be renewed each month in the school library. Mrs. McGuane, Carver’s librarian, will send reminders through Canvas. Please have your child bring the device by the Carver library to renew the account each month. Kajeet accounts not renewed each month in the school library will be closed by the district and the company providing internet service may begin billing the home for continued use. If your student no longer needs the Kajeet device, have them return it to the school library. Fully virtual students may return their Kajeets to the office at our secured main entrance or contact the librarian with questions about renewal and due dates.
