Carver Announcements for November 25, 2019


Hello Carver Families!

This information is intended to keep parents updated on reminders, upcoming activities, and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for updated daily announcements.


1.        December 19 will mark the end of the quarter. An alert now phone call will be coming on December 13th for each student with all A’s and B’s and for each student with a D or F grade.  Please be sure to check assignments, grades, and attendance online each day for your student and talk with your student about each grade. To check grades and assignments, please follow these steps:
·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess
·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password
o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.
o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.
·       Click on Grades for grade card for the quarter and on Classes for assignments and overall scores in each class throughout the quarter.  

2.        Attention 8th grade parents! Transitional Transfer requests are available from Nov 1 – Dec 2 if you would like your 8th grade student to attend a different high school other than the one in your address boundary. Each year, SPS eighth-graders have the opportunity to request a transitional transfer to the high school of their choice. A transitional transfer will not be revoked once approved. Only students wanting to attend a high school outside the address attendance boundary will need to submit transitional transfer. For more information or to submit at transitional transfer for 9th grade, please visit sps.org and click transitional transfers or click here. The deadline for submitting the transitional transfer is Monday, Dec 2, at 4:30 pm.

3.        To help celebrate Carver’s 25th year, this month we are collecting canned food to donate to the Ozark Food Harvest. Our goal is for each first hour to collect 25 cans of food. The food drive will continue through November.

4.        Have gently used books you would like to donate? We are collecting books for all age groups to donate to Great Circle Crisis Center. If you have books that you aren’t sure what to do with anymore, please send them to the library or office and we will deliver them to individuals in need!

5.        Please join us for Carver PTSA meeting in the Carver library on Thursday, Dec 12, from 5 pm – 6 pm. All parents/guardians are invited to attend. If you need more information about Carver PTSA, please contact PTSA via email at CarverPTSA@outlook.com or on facebook at Carver PTSA. We hope to see you at the PTSA meeting!

6.        Parent nights for 8th grade parents are scheduled for Kickapoo and Parkview. Kickapoo parent night is set for January 14 at 6 pm in the PAC. Parkview parent night is set for January 16 at 6:30 pm in the cafĂ©. Reminder flyers will be sent home with all 8th graders the week of December 16th.

7.        Basketball season has started! Come out to cheer on our teams! We encourage parents to come with students and cheer on our teams at each of our sporting events. For students without a guardian present in the stands, the guardian must pick up the student by 8 pm for each home and away game for all sports. Students attending the game as a spectator should make clear arrangements to have a ride at the designated pick-up time of 8 pm PRIOR to attending the game. Students picked up later than the expected pick-up time or with no pick-up ride in the stands by 8 pm could forfeit the privilege of attending future athletic activities as a spectator. If the game is not over at the 8 pm pick-up time, the driver/pick-up ride can enter the game for FREE for the remainder of the game to sit with the student in the stands and cheer our teams to victory. Please visit with your student prior to the start of the game on spectator expectations.

8.        The secure entrance construction on Carver’s main front entrance has temporarily paused while a part is on order. The expected delivery date and completion of the reminder of the secure entrance vestibule has been rescheduled for the week of Thanksgiving. While we wait and during that final construction, the front entrance will be accessible. Please use the buzzer located outside the main entrance and bring a picture ID to the main office.

9.        As a reminder, school ends at 2:45 pm! Please have your student picked up before 3 pm each day. Students not picked up before 3 pm will come to the office and we will call home. Please come into the office to speak to an administrator when your pick up your student after 3 pm. For our families that need a later pick up than 3 pm, please enroll your student in the Y-Teens (after school program provided for pay by the YMCA). Click here for registration information.

10.     DOES YOUR STUDENT NEED SOME HELP WITH HOMEWORK? After school tutoring is available through the Springfield Park Board, Monday-Thursday, 2:50-3:50 p.m. The next session is November 4 through December 19 for $35. Scholarships are available for students who qualify for free/reduced lunch. Forms are available in the office.

11.     Walking home from school using Battlefield Rd? Students walking home from school toward Battlefield Rd will be dismissed from school after car riders have been picked up from the car line at approximately 2:55 pm. Students walking home using the trail can leave at 2:45 pm.

12.     READING IS IMPORTANT! Please join our Carver Library Instagram page at carver_ms_library to learn about upcoming library events, book recommendations, book reviews, and a parent newsletter.

13.     Chromebooks must come back to school each day. Students arriving to school without a chromebook will come to the office and call home to have the chromebook brought to school. Students unable to have the chromebook brought to school will be expected to take their own notes on any online assignment or online learning and do the assignments as homework due the next day.

14.     CELL PHONE POLICY FOR CARVER: Students can use cell phones in green zones during the day. A green zone is between classes (students using a cell phone are not excused for being late to class for using a cell phone and will receive a tardy consequence), during lunch, before school until 8 am, and after school ends at 2:45 pm. Carver is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones or cases. The restroom and bathrooms are red zones. No phone use in the restroom or locker rooms. Classrooms are also red zones for phones unless the teacher has specifically allowed cell phone use in the syllabus. Please contact the teacher if you have questions about cell phone use in the classroom. Please make sure your student with a cell phone understands the cell phone policy if you send a cell phone with them to school. If an emergency arises during the day, please contact the office (417-523-6800), and a message can be relayed to your student. Thank you for helping us navigate student cell phone use during the learning time at school.

15.     Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) will continue at Carver! All students enrolled at Carver will be able to eat a school breakfast each morning for free. Click here for information about Breakfast in the Classroom Benefits. Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) will be available at Carver from 7:45am – 8:00 am for each student in their 1st hour classroom. Breakfast will not be available after 8:00 am in the classroom.

16.     Need after school care for your student or just want to avoid the afternoon carline? Sign up for Y-teens after school care at 862-7456 or at the Ward or Jones YMCA buildings. Y-teens is available from 2:45 pm – 6:30 pm each school day. Click here for the link!

17.     SPS will be deploying Hall Pass, a visitor management system, at all school sites. Please be sure to identify yourself and your child when buzzing at the secure entrance and bring a valid picture ID with you. The Hall Pass system will scan and screen your ID and create a visitor pass sticker for you to use during your visit. Carver Announcements for Nov 18, 2019

1.        Mid-Quarter was November 15th. Please be sure to check assignments, grades, and attendance online each day for your student and talk with your student about each grade. To check grades and assignments, please follow these steps:

3.        Families of children who currently attend Carver are invited to participate in the Free Grocery Distribution from the Ozark Food Harvest Mobile Truck on November 19 from 9:30 am – 10:30 am. The family member who is picking up food must show ID when receiving food.  Please bring at least two boxes or laundry baskets with you day of distribution.  If you are walking, a wagon is great! Rain or shine, the distribution goes on unless school is cancelled.
