Carver Announcements for Jan 28, 2019


Hello Carver Families!

This email is intended to keep parents updated on reminders and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for all additional announcements on clubs, activities, and student events!

1.        Mid-Quarter is Feb 1! Please check your student’s assignments and grades online and talk with your student. An alert now phone call will be coming on January 31 for each student with all A’s and B’s and for each student with a D or F grade. To check assignments or grades online, please follow these steps:
·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess
·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password
o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.
o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.
·       Click on Grades (for grade cards) or on Classes (for assignments) and overall scores in each class.   

2.        Student spectators attending home or away basketball games without a guardian present during games must be picked up or have pick-up rides in the stands by 8:00 pm for each home and away event. Students attending the game as a spectator should make clear arrangements to have a ride at the designated pick-up time PRIOR to attending the game. If the game is not over at the 8 pm pick-up time, the driver/pick-up ride can enter the game for FREE for the remainder of the game to sit with the student in the stands. Students picked up later than the expected pick-up time or with no pick-up ride in the stands by 8 pm could forfeit the privilege of attending future athletic activities as a spectator.

3.        Carver PTSA is hosting Little Caesar Pizza Fundraiser to support the class celebrations in May. Carver 6th and 7th graders will bring home information next week. If you haven’t had an opportunity to purchase a coupon booklet, call the office and we will get you a coupon booklet!

4.        Please join us for Carver PTSA meeting in the Carver library on Thursday, February 7, from 4 pm – 5 pm. All parents/guardians are invited to attend. A presentation on the upcoming SPS bond will take place on March 7, from 4 pm – 5 pm in the Carver library. Everyone is welcome. 5.        Springfield voters will be asked April 2 to consider a $168 million bond proposal to fund 39 high-priority projects, which were recommended by a citizen’s task force to make our schools safer and stronger for students and staff. The projects will renovate or reconstruct 6 schools, create safer entrances at 31 schools, plus add classroom space to expand preschool. If approved, the entrance at Carver will be remodeled to increase security with double-entry points and a series of intercoms, cameras, and electronic locking controls. 6.        Please take a moment to participate in a survey about library services at Carver. Our librarian will use your responses to help make decisions and plan services for all students. 8.        Encourage your student to read at home! Carver students are competing in a Reading Royale Challenge designed to encourage reading at home. The Reading Royale Challenge will run through April 26th. Students will set reading goals during visits to the library. Please talk with your student about his or her reading goal and encourage reading at home!

9.        Kickapoo High School has asked for us to share the presentation for parents via email communication. Click here for the presentation link for Kickapoo. When Parkview’s link becomes available, the link will be sent to parents.

10.     Want to nominate a great reading teacher? Nominations for an outstanding reading teacher for the 2019 Turner Reading Teacher Award are open. 11.     Springfield Public Schools needs bus drivers! If you or someone you know would be interested in becoming a bus driver, please click here for a short video and apply online at SPS.org.

12.     Does your student want to visit the WorldStrides trip to Washington, D.C. during Spring Break. Please email scotty617@gmail.com or sgreen@spsmail.org for more information or visit the website at worldstrides.com/signup and use Trip ID 160438.

13.     Reporting safety concerns will now be easier with a new, anonymous tip line launched by Springfield Public Schools. The dedicated tip line will enable students, teachers, parents, or community members to notify SPS School Police of potential safety threats with a quick text message to 417-319-2901, through the MySPS app, or on the district website at www.sps.org/tipline.

14.     Check out the new MySPS app from Springfield Public Schools to access menus, bus delay information, parent resources, online MealPay, directory link, notifications, eschool plus access, canvas access, SPS news, and the school calendar.

15.     Please make sure you have your child picked up by 3 pm each day. If you need after school care for your student or just want to avoid the afternoon carline, sign up for Y-teens after school care at 862-7456 or at the Ward or Jones YMCA buildings. Y-teens is available from 2:45 pm – 6:30 pm each school day at Carver.

1.        Carver Middle School is participating in the 8th annual Ozark Food Harvest Annual FOOD FIGHT! The food fight will take place from Jan. 14 – 25. The OFH Food Fight is a food and fund drive competition among Springfield Public Schools to stock local community and local school pantry shelves following the holiday season. Please consider donating food or dollar bills to help families in our community in need. Food items consist of: Tuna or other canned meat, peanut butter, beans, soups or stews, boxed meals, rice and pasta, canned vegetables, or cereal. Every food item helps a family in need in our community. Thank you for helping our students help families in our community! Join our food fight spirit week:
         Tuesday: Hat/Crazy Hair 
         Wednesday: Dress like Twins
               Thursday: Wear your Pajamas (outside shoes are required)
               Friday: Superhero (school appropriate costumes-no masks)
