Carver Announcements for 3.27.2022

 

Hello Carver Families!

This information is intended to keep parents updated on reminders, upcoming activities, and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for updated daily announcements. Please see below for announcements for this week:

1.        Grade cards were sent home Thursday, March 24th. Please talk with your student about grades or missing assignments for 3rd quarter and current grades for 4th quarter. Parents can check assignments and grades on Home Access at https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess. If you have any questions about assignments or grades, please reach out to the teacher via email or call 523-6800 to leave a message for the teacher. ·       To check overall grades in home access:

·  Assignments will be updated weekly by each teacher on home access. Grades will be updated for progress reports every three weeks and when the quarter ends. To check overall assignments and grades in eschool home access, please follow these steps:

·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess

·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password

o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.

o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.

·       Click on Classes for assignments and click on Grades for overall scores in each class at mid-quarter and at the end of the quarter.  

·       To message (Canvas email) teachers in Canvas:

·  Canvas is the platform our teachers and students use for learning. As a parent, you are automatically able to be an observer in each of your child’s Canvas courses with your own log-in and password. To find your child’s Canvas courses, log in to Canvas at www.sps.org > Click on “Parents” > Click on “Resources” > Click on “Canvas.” The log in for Canvas is the same as eschool home access log-in and password. If you are unable to log-in to Canvas or home access, please call the main office. We will be happy to assist you!

·  If you are unfamiliar with Canvas and would like quick tips on how to change preferences or contact a teacher through Canvas, click here for information.  

·  For accuracy, please use eschool Home Access for updated weekly grades. If you have questions about the assignment or grade, Canvas offers a way to immediately contact the teacher through inbox.  

2.          2021-22 SCHOOL YEARBOOKS ARE ON SALE! Buy your Carver Middle School yearbook now through March 31, 2022! Click here to order online. You can also order in the main office. Yearbook price is $18.00.

3.        Explore Summer School Registration is open! Summer school starts June 6 through July 15 from 7:30 am – 3 pm. Students in 6th and 7th grades can enroll in virtual summer school or attend seated summer school at Cherokee Middle School. Summer school for current 8th graders will be virtual only. Sign up for courses and busing before April 15th to be eligible for bus transportation on the first day of summer school for seated classes. 4.        Please be a part of our Carver PTSA! The next Carver PTSA meeting will be held in the library on April 12th (Tuesday) from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm. Masking is optional. To join PTSA, print and complete this form (click here) and send the completed form and payment to the office or in the Carver PTSA drop box located outside the main office. Membership cost is $7 per individual or $10 per family.

5.        Want to help our PTSA in an easy way? PTSA is raising money by collecting digital Box Tops. Each Box Top scanned can bring money to our PTSA! 6.        Carver PTSA is looking for officers for the 2022-2023 school year. For more information about roles and positions, please contact CarverPTSA@outlook.com.

7.        Ozark Food Harvest Mobile Truck is coming to Carver! Carver will host the Ozark Food Harvest Mobile Food Truck for the families of students attending Carver, Jeffries, Sherwood, Mann, and Fulbright on April 13 from 11 am – 12:30 pm. Click here to for a flyer. Please bring two boxes for the food. If walking, the individual picking up the family will need a way to carry the food home (i.e., wagon, laundry basket, etc.). Distribution will begin at 11 am. Cars can begin lining up in the bus lane at 10:15 am. Distribution will end at 12:30 pm.

8.        Students should bring a charged chromebook to school each day! Students without a chromebook will call home to have the device delivered to school. Thank you for helping your student remember to bring a charged chromebook each school day!

9.        Due to COVID restrictions, the water fountains at Carver are closed. Please send a water bottle to school with your student each day. Students can refill water bottles at one of the two bottle filler stations we have at Carver.

10.     WANT TO AVOID THE AFTERNOON CARLINE?? SPARC offers after school care each school day until 6 pm at Carver. Click here for registration information.

11.     We want to stay connected with you! If you have questions about your child’s assignment or grade, please email the teacher. Click here for a list of all emails for our building.

12.     Breakfast and lunch will be provided for free to all in-person students each school day thanks to a waiver from the USDA. In addition, there are options for in-person students to receive food for the weekend and for virtual students to receive seven (7) days of food each week. To receive the seven days of food each week, parents or guardians must register in advance. Click here to register.

13.     Parents! Need help accessing and checking learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide created by our librarian for “how-to” items for parents.  Please be sure to reach out with questions about eschool or canvas. Ask your student to canvas inbox (email) his or her teachers and read the answers from the teacher together or email the teachers directly (teacher email list here)! 2.        BUS ROUTE UPDATES! Busing has resumed for students that qualified previously at the beginning of school in August. Please check your email and your text alerts from the district for updated bus numbers and bus stop times. If you did not receive an email from Transportation and your student qualifies for busing, please call 523-0500.

The students in the Tech Force Team applied to be part of the Tech Force team to assist the librarian, students, and teachers with technology needs. Part of the duties in Tech Force is to also create a student news video to highlight activities and events at Carver. The GWC News is shared with students during Breakfast in the Classroom and is also available for student viewing on Cougar Voices Canvas page.

2.        OZARK FOOD HARVEST FOOD FIGHT HAS ONE MORE WEEK! Carver will participate in the OFH Food Fight again this year! From Monday (Feb. 28th) through Thursday (March 10th), Carver will collect non-perishable food donations and/or funds to raise meals for Springfield Families. Funds raised will sponsor students for the Weekend Backpack Program and food donations will stock Ozarks Food Harvest’s busiest food pantries in Greene County. The school who raises the most meals per student (total meals raised divided by enrollment number) will be named Food Fight Champs! Parkcrest Dental will be Carver's community partner for this event. Here are ways our families can contribute to the Food Fight:

·       Students can bring their food donations to their first period class through March 10th. Most needed food items:

o   Tuna or other canned meat • Peanut butter • Boxed meals, rice and pasta • Beans, soups or stews • Canned fruit and vegetables • Cereal

·       Owe a school library fine for books? Bring two canned goods and have $1 taken off your school library fines! (Please deliver the cans to the Carver Librarian. Canned food must not be expired.)
