Carver Announcements for 1.30.2022

 

Hello Carver Families!

This information is intended to keep parents updated on reminders, upcoming activities, and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for updated daily announcements. Please see below for announcements for this week:

1.        Progress reports will be sent home this week on Monday or Tuesday. Please talk with your student about grades or missing assignments currently for 3rd quarter. Parents can check assignment grades on Home Access at https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess. If you have any questions about assignments or grades, please reach out to the teacher via email or call 523-6800 to leave a message for the teacher. ·       To check overall grades in home access:

·  Assignments will be updated weekly by each teacher on home access. Grades will be updated for progress reports every three weeks and when the quarter ends. To check overall assignments and grades in eschool home access, please follow these steps:

·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess

·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password

o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.

o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.

·       Click on Classes for assignments and click on Grades for overall scores in each class at mid-quarter and at the end of the quarter.  

·       To message (Canvas email) teachers in Canvas:

·  Canvas is the platform our teachers and students use for learning. As a parent, you are automatically able to be an observer in each of your child’s Canvas courses with your own log-in and password. To find your child’s Canvas courses, log in to Canvas at www.sps.org > Click on “Parents” > Click on “Resources” > Click on “Canvas.” The log in for Canvas is the same as eschool home access log-in and password. If you are unable to log-in to Canvas or home access, please call the main office. We will be happy to assist you!

·  If you are unfamiliar with Canvas and would like quick tips on how to change preferences or contact a teacher through Canvas, click here for information.  

·  For accuracy, please use eschool Home Access for updated weekly grades. If you have questions about the assignment or grade, Canvas offers a way to immediately contact the teacher through inbox.

2.        Please be a part of our Carver PTSA! The next Carver PTSA meeting will be held in the library on February 8 (Tuesday) from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm. Masking is optional. You can also attend the meeting via zoom by using this zoom link:

To join PTSA, print and complete this form (click here) and send the completed form and payment to the office. We will place the form and payment in the Carver PTSA drop box located outside the main office. Membership cost is $7 per individual or $10 per family.

3.        Attention Parkview Parents: Parkview postponed the parent information meeting for 8th grade parents last Thursday. A reschedule date has not been set for the meeting that will be held in the Parkview Auditorium. Click here for the flyer. Please call Parkview High School for more information.

4.        Attention 8th grade Parents: Applications for 8th grade students interested in participating in the spring semester of Careers in Conservation (CIC) are now open. The deadline to apply is on February 13.  Click here for the CIC flyer. Click here for the student application

5.        Students should bring a charged chromebook to school each day! Students without a chromebook will call home to have the device delivered to school. Thank you for helping your student remember to bring a charged chromebook each school day!

6.        Due to COVID restrictions, the water fountains at Carver are closed. Please send a water bottle to school with your student each day. Students can refill water bottles at one of the two bottle filler stations we have at Carver.

7.        WANT TO AVOID THE AFTERNOON CARLINE?? SPARC offers after school care each school day until 6 pm at Carver. Click here for registration information.

8.        We want to stay connected with you! If you have questions about your child’s assignment or grade, please email the teacher. Click here for a list of all emails for our building.

9.        Breakfast and lunch will be provided for free to all in-person students each school day thanks to a waiver from the USDA. In addition, there are options for in-person students to receive food for the weekend and for virtual students to receive seven (7) days of food each week. To receive the seven days of food each week, parents or guardians must register in advance. Click here to register.

10.     Parents! Need help accessing and checking learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide created by our librarian for “how-to” items for parents.  Please be sure to reach out with questions about eschool or canvas. Ask your student to canvas inbox (email) his or her teachers and read the answers from the teacher together or email the teachers directly (teacher email list here)! Teachers are available via email or the librarian is willing to help via email, phone, or Instagram.

3.       Attention Parents: At 4:30 pm, we have over 700 students exiting the building as bus riders, car riders or walkers. Safety of students as they leave our building is a priority for all of us. We recognize the carline at 4:30 pm dismissal has increased with the changes to the busing distances in early November.  However, please do not park in the Dollar General parking lot and have your student walk to their store to avoid the carline. Because of concerns in the parking lot and concerns inside the store, students are no longer allowed inside the store at 4:30 pm unless accompanied by a parent/adult. Please be respectful of the businesses near Carver and don’t take parking spaces from their customers.

4.       Attention Parkview Parents: Parkview will hold a parent information meeting for 8th grade parents in the Parkview Auditorium on January 27 from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm. Click here for the flyer. Please call Parkview High School for more information.

5.       Click here to view the latest episode from the GWC  Student News Tech Force team. The students in the Tech Force Team applied to be part of the Tech Force team to assist the librarian, students, and teachers with technology needs. Part of the duties in Tech Force is to also create a student news video to highlight activities and events at Carver. The GWC News is shared with students during Breakfast in the Classroom and is also available for student viewing on Cougar Voices Canvas page.

6.       Nutrition Services: At the beginning of each semester, each family is encouraged to apply for Free and Reduced-Price Meals. Click here to apply online.
