Carver Announcements for 10.24.2021

 

Hello Carver Families!

This information is intended to keep parents updated on reminders, upcoming activities, and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for updated daily announcements. Please see below for announcements for this week:

1.        The end of first quarter was on Oct 21. Grade cards will be sent home on Oct 28. Parents can check assignment grades on Home Access at https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess. If you have any questions about the assignments or grades, please reach out to the teacher. Click here for a list of all emails for teachers at Carver. 

2.        In order to provide the number of flu vaccines needed, the free flu clinic date has been changed at Carver to Monday, October 25th.  Carver will host a free flu vaccine clinic on Monday, October 25. You can access the permission consent form here: Click here for the permission consent form. Written parental consent is required for your child to participate. Please call Nurse Nancy at 523-6830 for questions.

3.        CARVER PTSA! Please join Carver PTSA! To join, print and complete this form (click here) and send the completed form and payment to the office. We will place the form and payment in the Carver PTSA drop box located outside the main office. Membership cost is $7 per individual or $10 per family.

4.       CARVER PTSA! November Carver 2021-22 PTSA meeting will be held via Zoom on Nov 9 from 6 pm – 7 pm. Please join us as we work to reestablish PTSA at Carver. 5.        Does your student love online gaming? If so, Contender E-Sports is offering students from Carver two free hours gaming play in the evenings during the week of October 25-29. 6.       ATTENTION ALL 8th GRADE PARENTS: If you would like your 8th grade student to attend a different high school as a freshman than where you live for high school, you must complete a Transitional Transfer Request online at sps.org. The request must be completed online at sps.org between November 1 through November 30, 2021. (The deadline to submit the transfer request for high school ends at 4:30 pm on November 30, 2021. No late submissions will be accepted.)

7.       Carver FALL SPIRIT Week: October 25-29

Monday (Oct 25): Fall Colors Day 8th grade = wear black

  7th grade = wear orange

  6th grade = wear purple

  Tuesday (Oct 26): Team Tuesday = Wear your favorite fall sports team gear!

  Wednesday (Oct 27): Pink Out = On Wednesday’s, we wear pink for Breast Cancer

   Awareness Month.

  Thursday (Oct 28): Flannel Day = Stay Warm and Wear Fall Flannel!

  Friday (Oct 29): Halloween Costume Day = Wear your school appropriate costume!

(Real shoes required, no weapons or props allowed, face mask must cover the mouth and nose as outlined by the school board, no costume masks covering the eyes.)

11.    Click here to view the latest episode from the GWC  Student News Tech Force team. The students in the Tech Force Team applied to be part of the Tech Force team to assist the librarian, students, and teachers with technology needs. Part of the duties in Tech Force is to also create a student news video to highlight activities and events at Carver. The GWC News is shared with students during Breakfast in the Classroom and is also available for student viewing on Cougar Voices Canvas page.

12.    Please spend a few minutes with your student weekly to review assignments and grades in each class. Follow these steps to check grades and assignments:

·       To check overall grades in home access:

·  Assignments will be updated weekly by each teacher on home access. Grades will be updated through progress reports every three weeks and for final end-of-quarter grades. To check overall assignments and grades in eschool home access, please follow these steps:

·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess

·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password

o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.

o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.

·       Click on Classes for assignments and click on Grades for overall scores in each class at mid-quarter and at the end of the quarter.  

·       To message teachers in Canvas:

·  Canvas is the platform our teachers and students use for learning. As a parent, you are automatically able to be an observer in each of your child’s Canvas courses with your own log-in and password. To find your child’s Canvas courses, log in to Canvas at www.sps.org > Click on “Parents” > Click on “Resources” > Click on “Canvas.” The log in for Canvas is the same as eschool home access log-in and password. If you are unable to log-in to Canvas or home access, please call the main office. We will be happy to assist you!

·  If you are unfamiliar with Canvas and would like quick tips on how to change preferences or contact a teacher through Canvas, click here for information.  

·  For accuracy, please use eschool Home Access for updated weekly grades. If you have questions about the assignment or grade, Canvas offers a way to immediately contact the teacher through inbox.

13.    Park Crest Baptist Church is offering to provide Carver families in need with a free Thanksgiving turkey and meal for Thanksgiving dinner through #SHOWSpringfield Food Basket program. To register please click this link and enter your information (click here). Registration Closes on Wednesday, November 17th. If you have trouble with the link or can’t access the link, please call us in the office at 523-6800 and we can register your family.

14.    Nutrition Services: At the beginning of each semester, each family is encouraged to apply for Free and Reduced-Price Meals. Click here to apply online. 15.     Students should bring a charged chromebook to school each day! Students without a chromebook will call home to have the device delivered to school. Thank you for helping your student remember to bring a charged chromebook each school day!

16.     Due to COVID restrictions, the water fountains at Carver are closed. Please send a water bottle to school with your student each day. Students can refill water bottles at one of the two bottle filler stations we have at Carver.

17.    School Pictures: Picture retakes are November 18. Please visit mylifetouch.com and enter this Picture ID: EVTWRJJ2N along with the name of your student. Fully virtual students needing retakes or pictures on November 18th can arrive at 9:45 am in the main entrance.

18.     Our buses need assistance getting to the building in the afternoon. Please allow school buses by when you are waiting in the car line. If you have questions about transportation, please call 523-0500.

19.     Picking up your student in the afternoon carline? At this point, we will be dismissing students by name only from classrooms to the afternoon carline as you appear in the carline. Students will remain in the classroom until they are called to the carline by the adults supervising. To speed up the carline time, please have your student’s first and last name displayed on paper on your dash. Please use LARGE letters. We will revisit carline dismissal processes as the year progresses. Thank you for your patience as we get our students to and from school safely!

20.     Need before school care or after school care for your student? SPARC will be offering before and after school care each school day from 6:30 am until 6 pm at Carver. Click here for registration information.

21.     We want to stay connected with you! If you have questions about your child’s assignment or grade, please email the teacher. Click here for a list of all emails for our building.

22.     Need a Hotspot? The school district has purchased T-Mobile hotspots to issue to students needing internet access at home. The hotspot is filtered for only educational use and will be issued per family. Carver has a limited number of hotspots available that will be distributed on first-come, first-serve basis. To obtain a hotspot, an application must be signed by the parent/guardian and returned to the front office at Carver. If you need an application, please call Mrs. McGuane at 523-6800. This process is for seated and virtual students. Once a hotspot is issued, the hotspots will need to be renewed monthly in person for seated students. Fully virtual students will be able to renew their hotspot online each quarter by messaging Mrs. McGuane through Canvas. Hotspots not being used or reporting low usage will be required by the district to be returned to the building. Students will be charged $50 for non-return of hotspots.

23.     Breakfast and lunch will be provided for free to all in-person students each school day thanks to a waiver from the USDA. In addition, there are options for in-person students to receive food for the weekend and for virtual students to receive seven (7) days of food each week. 24.     Parents! Need help accessing and checking learning with your student??? Click here for a list of resources from SPS. You can also click here for a guide created by our librarian for “how-to” items for parents.  Please be sure to reach out with questions about eschool or canvas. Ask your student to canvas inbox (email) his or her teachers and read the answers from the teacher together or email the teachers directly (teacher email list here)! Teachers are available via email or the librarian is willing to help via email, phone, or Instagram.
