Carver Announcements for September 3, 2019

Hello Carver Families!

This email is intended to keep parents updated on reminders, upcoming activities, and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for updated daily announcements.

1.        Mid-Quarter is coming soon! Please be sure to check assignments, grades, and attendance online each day for your student. To check grades online prior to mid-quarter, please follow these steps:
·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess
·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password
o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.
o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.
·       Click on Classes for assignments and overall scores in each class.

2.        Carver PTSA will meet this Thursday in the Carver Library at 4:30 pm. Please join Carver PTSA and be an active parent in our school community! Research shows students are more engaged when parents are more engaged in the school community! Contact PTSA via email at CarverPTSA@outlook.com or on facebook at Carver PTSA for more information.

3.        Come cheer on our sport teams!! We encourage parents to come with students and cheer on our teams at each of our sporting events. For students without a guardian present in the stands, the guardian must pick up the student by 8 pm for each home and away game for all sports. Students attending the game as a spectator should make clear arrangements to have a ride at the designated pick-up time of 8 pm PRIOR to attending the game. Students picked up later than the expected pick-up time or with no pick-up ride in the stands by 8 pm could forfeit the privilege of attending future athletic activities as a spectator. If the game is not over at the 8 pm pick-up time, the driver/pick-up ride can enter the game for FREE for the remainder of the game to sit with the student in the stands and cheer our teams to victory.

4.        As a reminder, school ends at 2:45 pm! Please have your student picked up before 3 pm each day. Students not picked up before 3 pm will come to the office and we will call home. Please come into the office to speak to an administrator when your pick up your student after 3 pm. For our families that need a later pick up than 3 pm, please enroll your student in the Y-Teens (after school program provided for pay by the YMCA). Click here for registration information.

5.        Flu clinic is coming to Carver on October 8. Please contact Nurse Nancy Sadler, at 523-6830, for more information.

6.        Walking home from school using Battlefield Rd? Students walking home from school toward Battlefield Rd will be dismissed from school after car riders have been picked up from the car line at approximately 2:55 pm. Students walking home using the trail can leave at 2:45 pm.

7.        READING IS IMPORTANT! Please join our Carver Library Instagram page at carver_ms_library to learn about upcoming library events, book recommendations, book reviews, and a parent newsletter.

8.        Chromebooks must come back to school each day. Students arriving to school without a chromebook will come to the office and call home to have the chromebook brought to school. Students unable to have the chromebook brought to school will be expected to take their own notes on any online assignment or online learning and do the assignments as homework due the next day.

9.        CELL PHONE POLICY FOR CARVER: Students can use cell phones in green zones during the day. A green zone is between classes (students using a cell phone are not excused for being late to class for using a cell phone and will receive a tardy consequence), during lunch, before school until 8 am, and after school ends at 2:45 pm. Carver is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones or cases. The restroom and bathrooms are red zones. No phone use in the restroom or locker rooms. Classrooms are also red zones for phones unless the teacher has specifically allowed cell phone use in the syllabus. Please contact the teacher if you have questions about cell phone use in the classroom. Please make sure your student with a cell phone understands the cell phone policy if you send a cell phone with them to school. If an emergency arises during the day, please contact the office (417-523-6800), and a message can be relayed to your student. Thank you for helping us navigate student cell phone use during the learning time at school!

10.     Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) will continue at Carver! All students enrolled at Carver will be able to eat a school breakfast each morning for free. Click here for information about Breakfast in the Classroom Benefits. Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) will be available at Carver from 7:45am – 8:00 am for each student in their 1st hour classroom. Breakfast will not be available after 8:00 am in the classroom.

11.     Need after school care for your student or just want to avoid the afternoon carline? Sign up for Y-teens after school care at 862-7456 or at the Ward or Jones YMCA buildings. Y-teens is available from 2:45 pm – 6:30 pm each school day. Click here for the link!

12.     SPS will be deploying Hall Pass, a visitor management system, at all school sites. Please be sure to identify yourself and your child when buzzing at the secure entrance and bring a valid picture ID with you. The Hall Pass system will scan and screen your ID and create a visitor pass sticker for you to use during your visit.
