Carver announcements for May 6, 2019

Hello Carver Families!

This email is intended to keep parents updated on reminders and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for all additional announcements on clubs, activities, and student events!

1.        The end of the year is fast approaching! Please check your student’s assignments and grades online and talk with your student about the importance of grades. An alert now phone call will be coming on May 13 for each student with all A’s and B’s and for each student with a D or F grade. To check assignments or grades online, please follow these steps:
·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess
·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password
o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.
o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.
·       Click on Grades (for grade cards) or on Classes (for assignments) and overall scores in each class.

2.        Want to help us celebrate our fantastic teachers? Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6 – 10!! Please celebrate all the work teachers do daily by sending a quick thank you email or note to your child’s favorite teacher. Saying thank you is free and means so very much to our teachers and support staff!

3.        Carver PTSA is hosting the annual 8th grade celebration again this year. The celebration will be on 5/17/19 from 6 pm – 8 pm at Boys and Girls Club. Shirts, including student names on the back, are on sale for $10. If you would like to purchase one, please send $10 to the office (check or cash) with the size of the shirt. Permission slips will be sent home this week. Each student attending must have a signed permission form. If you would like to volunteer, please contact PTSA at CarverPTSA@outlook.com or on facebook at Carver PTSA.

4.        Please join us for Carver PTSA meeting in the Carver library on Thursday, May 9, from 4 pm – 5 pm. All parents/guardians are invited to attend. If you need more information about Carver PTSA, please contact PTSA via email at CarverPTSA@outlook.com or on facebook at Carver PTSA. We hope to see you at the PTSA meeting!

5.        Reminder that all medications with the school nurse must be picked up by an adult by the last day of school. Per Springfield Public School medication policy, the school nurse is not permitted to send unused medication home with a student. All unclaimed medication will be discarded on May 21, 2019 at 10:00 am. Please contact Nurse Nancy at 523-6830 or nasadler@spsmail.org with any questions or if you need to pick them up after 10 am on the last day of school.

6.        Warmer weather is here! Please make sure to talk with your student about appropriate dress code. The school district dress code policy indicates: Strapless, backless, revealing tops, or clothing revealing the bare midriff are not to be worn in the school building. Clothing must cover all underwear and shorts should reach to the mid-thigh. Students not wearing appropriate clothing will be asked to call home for different clothes or offered clothing from the nurse. Thank you for talking with your student about appropriate dress at school.

7.        Make Explore part of your summer plans! There will be two sessions of Explore summer school this year. This year, students can also register for online remedial classes if a student failed one or more courses in the regular school year. Register for Explore classes at sps.org/Explore or call Mrs. Kensinger at 523-6800 to register for remedial classes.

8.        As a reminder, please make sure your student brings a charged Chromebook to school each day. Students without a Chromebook will call a parent or guardian to bring the Chromebook to school. If the Chromebook cannot be brought to school, students will take notes to complete the work at home that evening. Please remind your student to charge his or her Chromebook nightly and bring the Chromebook daily.

9.        Our counselors at Carver have an online form accessible in Canvas to help students as they encounter situations at school. Students can access the form at school or at home via Canvas using a chromebook to alert a counselor of a concern. If you need help or are unable to find the Canvas resource, please call 523-6800 and ask to speak to a counselor.

10.     Please make sure you have your child picked up by 3 pm each day. If you need after school care for your student or just want to avoid the afternoon carline, sign up for Y-teens after school care at 862-7456 or at the Ward or Jones YMCA buildings. Y-teens is available from 2:45 pm – 6:30 pm each school day at Carver.

11.     Reporting safety concerns will now be easier with a new, anonymous tip line launched by Springfield Public Schools. The dedicated tip line will enable students, teachers, parents, or community members to notify SPS School Police of potential safety threats with a quick text message to 417-319-2901, through the MySPS app, or on the district website at www.sps.org/tipline.

12.     Check out the new MySPS app from Springfield Public Schools to access menus, bus delay information, parent resources, online MealPay, directory link, notifications, eschool plus access, canvas access, SPS news, and the school calendar.

13.     Want to stay connected to the weekly announcements using Remind texting? If so, text @1carver to 81010 to get these announcements weekly. The announcements can also be found on Carver’s Twitter and Facebook pages at:
