Carver Announcements for Oct 1, 2018


Hello Carver Families!

This email is intended to keep parents updated on reminders, upcoming activities, and announcements during the school year. Be sure to check Carver's webpage for updated daily announcements.

1.        First Quarter ends on 10/12/18! Please check your student’s grades online this week on home access and talk with your student about each grade before first quarter ends! An alert now phone call will be coming home after on Friday evening for each student with all A’s and/or all B’s and each student with a D or F. Please check your student’s grades online for individual assignment grades and talk with your student about each assignment. To check grades online, please follow these steps:
·       Home Access Center website: https://homeaccess.sps.org/homeaccess
·       Log-in: Enter User Name and Password
o   If you have not previously logged on, you will be asked to create two questions with answers in case you forget your password in the future.
o   If you need your log-in and password, please come in or call the office.
·       Click on Classes for assignments and scores and on grades for mid-quarter reports in each class.  

2.        Carver’s orchestra and seventh grade reading classes are collecting new socks and other items to help support Springfield’s homeless shelters this winter. Please consider donating to #Socktober and help local families and individuals during the winter. To learn more about the program, use this link or watch this Kid President video on youtube.

3.        Please join us for Carver PTSA meeting in the Carver library on Thursday, Oct 11, from 4 pm – 5 pm. All parents/guardians are invited to attend. If you would like to participate in Superintendent’s Open Parent Forum, please let PTSA or the office know. 4.        Parent conference late night is on October 23. Please call school to arrange a parent conference with your child’s teachers.

5.        Reporting safety concerns will now be easier with a new, anonymous tip line launched by Springfield Public Schools. The dedicated tip line will enable students, teachers, parents, or community members to notify SPS School Police of potential safety threats with a quick text message to 417-319-2901, through the MySPS app, or on the district website at www.sps.org/tipline.

6.        Check out the new MySPS app from Springfield Public Schools to access menus, bus delay information, parent resources, online MealPay, directory link, notifications, eschool plus access, canvas access, SPS news, and the school calendar.

7.        As part of the IGNiTE teaching and learning initiative, the school district partnered with BrightBytes, an educational research and analytics organization to learn more about technology use for student learning. Please use this link to add your input about technology. The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

8.        No school on October 15! Need child care for October 15? SPARC offers all day child care for October 15. Click here for the flyer. Click here for the registration form. 9.        Does your student love to travel and love history? If so, make plans to attend the informational parent meeting on 9/18/18 in the Carver cafĂ© at 6 pm for more information on the WorldStrides trip to Washington, D.C. during Spring Break. 10.     PTSA has Carver spirit shirts on sale for $5 and Carver spirit water bottles for $2. You can purchase the items at the PTSA meeting on Thursday at 4 pm or by contacting PTSA via email at CarverPTSA@outlook.com or on facebook at Carver PTSA.

11.     Check out this flyer for information to participate in SPARC Game Days before home games.

12.     Please make sure you have your child picked up by 3 pm each day. If you need after school care for your student or just want to avoid the afternoon carline, sign up for Y-teens after school care at 862-7456 or at the Ward or Jones YMCA buildings. Y-teens is available from 2:45 pm – 6:30 pm each school day at Carver.

13.     Student spectators attending home or away games without a guardian present during games must be picked up or have pick-up rides in the stands by 8:00 pm for each home and away event. Students attending the game as a spectator should make clear arrangements to have a ride at the designated pick-up time PRIOR to attending the game. Students picked up later than the expected pick-up time or with no pick-up ride in the stands by 8 pm could forfeit the privilege of attending future athletic activities as a spectator. If the game is not over at the 8 pm pick-up time, the driver/pick-up ride can enter the game for FREE for the remainder of the game to sit with the student in the stands.

14.     Flu clinic is coming to Carver on November 7. Please contact Nurse Nancy Sadler, at 523-6830, for more information.
